NMD (national land cover data) and DVIS (digital geographic knowledge base on natural and cultural heritage values in forests) were two assignments that Metria worked on in 2024 on behalf of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Both of these projects are highlighted in the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's annual report for 2024, which has just been published.
Among other things, the Swedish EPA points to the broad use of NMD in areas such as spatial planning, biodiversity, risk mapping, forestry planning and climate issues and highlights the benefits of innovative methods such as automation, time series analysis and machine learning, as well as input data such as the national laser scanning and satellite data from Copernicus.
Furthermore, the Swedish EPA writes that efforts are underway to ensure long-term management and funding of NMD, which is gratifying both for Metria and for all users of these data at authorities, municipalities and in the business community.
As the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's framework agreement supplier in geographical IT systems, remote sensing and geographical information, we look forward to continuing to develop and make available geographical data that makes a difference.
