Many of the most crucial decisions in an architecture project are made early on. Already in the program and sketch stage, the framework for design, feasibility and economy is set. At the same time, these decisions are often based on limited or fragmented information about the actual conditions of the site.
Geographical and real estate information allows architects to work more knowledge-based from the start - and reduce the risk of retakes later in the process.
Maps and orthophotos are used by architects today to understand the context of the site: building structure, infrastructure, topography and the relationship to surrounding environments. They provide an important basis for analysis, sketch work and dialog with clients.
Property information adds another dimension. Information on property boundaries, ownership and rights provides the architect with insight into the legal framework that affects a project. It allows early identification of constraints and conditions that might otherwise only be discovered at later stages.
When architects lack access to comprehensive and up-to-date information, the risk of important issues being addressed late in the process increases. This can lead to adjustments in volumes, reworked proposals and delayed decisions.
As demands for sustainability, efficient use of resources and quality in urban development increase, early, well-founded decisions become increasingly important. Geographical and real estate information then serves as a common factual basis that strengthens both the analysis and the dialog between architect, client and authorities.
Working data-driven does not mean replacing the architect's design skills - quite the opposite. The right information at the right stage provides better conditions for creativity, feasibility and long-term sustainable solutions.
