The transition to an electrified society is in full swing. Billion-dollar investments in new construction and upgrading of existing networks affect virtually all of Sweden and thus a large number of stakeholders and landowners. In addition to long permit processes, analogous handling of land issues is a cause of protracted projects. The new Metria Markkoll service now offers an unbroken digital chain in land management.
- "Land management can be seen as a minor cost in the grand scheme of things, but the effect of securing land lease agreements, easements and registrations in a quality-controlled and future-proofed way is in principle invaluable to utility owners," says André Öberg, product manager and responsible for the development of Metria Markkoll.
Today, the administration of land issues in electricity network construction is largely analog, for example by manually creating all the contract and intrusion maps required in the projects.
Such a way of working takes unnecessary time, leads to shortcomings in quality and tracking and means broken digital chains. Valuable time can be saved here, while avoiding inaccurate information about property boundaries, landowners, etc.
Metria is now launching a product portfolio of niche cloud services to support the electricity network companies in the expansion processes, Metria Markkoll. The first service to be released digitizes land management. With the map at the center, the work of producing, for example, information letters, land agreements, map attachments and valuation protocols for each individual property owner is automated. The service offers completely new opportunities to actually keep track of the situation:
- With Metria Markkoll, we retire the Excel files and help network owners and consultants to really identify affected property and land owners, says André and adds: 'The big benefit of starting from the map is that the information is clear, easy to share and updated in real time.
The web-based land management service combines Metria's expertise in geodata, real estate information and GIS analysis. It increases the quality, control and efficiency of land owners in the preparation phase of the land access process
- Fully deployed, the services will cover the entire land access process for utility owners, from analysis and design to management in an unbroken, traceable digital chain.
Skellefteå Kraft has been using an early version of the service for land management since the beginning of 2021. Ida Lindquist, Head of Department Network Documentation, is very pleased with the solution:
- The system makes administration easier for all functions and in the long run provides a better working environment so that we can focus on tasks that are more value-creating for our customers.
- The service has previously been released for fiber customers and we now have a number of electricity network customers who are testing to get started, says André.
Metria Markkoll is an innovative solution that both streamlines and quality assures the process of land access.

In addition to the Land Management service, Metria Markkoll will include services for Analysis & Design, Consultation, Construction, Maintenance and Management. Modules will be released and updated continuously during 2022 and 2023.
