What does the surge in bankruptcies in Sweden mean for your business?

The number of bankruptcies rose sharply in Sweden last year, and the first quarter of this year shows no signs that the number of bankruptcies will fall in the near future. The data comes from the credit information company SYNA, which continuously reports fresh information with nationwide bankruptcy statistics.

The number of bankruptcies in Sweden continues to be high. In January, 641 companies went bankrupt. This is an increase of 61% compared to January last year. It is clear that many companies continue to have a very difficult time. The trend of a large number of bankruptcies in the fall continues into the new year.

Particularly vulnerable are small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the construction and restaurant sectors, which continue to face a tough period. However, several sectors are affected and previously profitable businesses are now threatening to become unprofitable as society faces high energy prices, higher interest rates and a generally weakened economy. Add to this the effects of Russia's war in Ukraine and the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic, and there are many factors for operational challenges.

In light of the rising bankruptcy statistics, there is even greater value in ensuring the collection of up-to-date and reliable business information in the right parts of our customers' processes.

- Metria has been collaborating with SYNA for many years and we see great opportunities to expand that collaboration going forward. Our guiding principle is to deliver more customer value in parts of processes and in existing delivery channels and services where we currently deliver, for example, real estate information or forestry information," says Martin Hising, Product Manager Business Information at Metria.

- "It is clear that the current economic and market situation creates an increased need to keep track of their customers, suppliers and partners in order not to run an increased financial risk in the event of events within their own ecosystem - we at Metria should be able to be there and help our customers in a proactive way. We have that opportunity thanks to our collaboration with SYNA, among others," says Martin.
