Geodata provides increased knowledge for sustainable forestry

As a forest owner or stakeholder in the industry, you need reliable data for decision-making. Today, large amounts of geographic data - geodata - are available to increase knowledge throughout the forestry process. It supports all types of decisions, from ecosystem management to raw material supply planning and the development of financial key figures.

The ability to collect forest information has increased in recent years and the amount of data has exploded. Satellites, aircraft, drones and ground-based devices provide good and up-to-date information on forests. Harvesting data, laser scanning and satellite imagery create new opportunities for smart analysis in the forest industry.

Artificial intelligence provides deeper insights

Metria are experts in creating, analyzing, refining and visualizing geodata. Artificial intelligence (AI) is used to transform the large amounts of data into valuable insights.

- AI combined with remote sensing and big data allows us to create insights about our forests and nature in a new way. For example, we can identify which areas are at high risk of bark beetle infestation or where thinning is most needed," says Martin Bergström, Head of Analysis at Metria, adding:

- "But it is only when the insights become easily accessible that they really come in handy. That is why we have developed the Forest Analysis service.

Forest analysis provides fact-based decision support

Forest Analysis is an intuitive web service that makes analyses of large amounts of forest data available to, for example, forest companies, major landowners and valuers. They are used as a fact-based basis for, among other things, valuation of forest and agricultural properties. The user quickly gets an analysis of most forest parameters, such as timber volume, tree species distribution, area distribution and roughly divided harvesting classes.

Quick basic analysis of an agricultural property

- "We also plan to make it even easier to access the information via a report that shows basic forest data, tree species distribution, harvesting statistics, harvesting classes and protected areas for properties," says Fredrik Olsson Alvebro, Product Manager at Metria.

The report will be available for purchase to anyone who wants to quickly and easily get a basic analysis of their agricultural property.
